instruction. Our experience of the students of the
Osmania University, even though it is not a long
one, has already canvinced those professors of British
Indian Universities who examined them in such sub-
jects as Mathematics, History and Economics, that
saved as these students now are from having to divert
their attention from the subject matter to the gram-
matical construction of a foreign language, in which
the students of other Universities in India have to
study their books and to answer their question-papers,
they are able not only to express themselves in their
own mother-tongue more clearly, but also to show a
firmer grasp of the subject of study than the students
even of a higher class in the Universities established
in British India.

આપણા વિદ્યાથીએ મેળવેલું જ્ઞાન પચાવી શકે અને બને તેટલી
સ્વાભાવિક રીતે તે સ્વતંત્રપણે વિચાર કરી તે વ્યકત કરી શકે એમ થવું
જરૂરનું છે. આ દેશી ભાષાને એધભાષા તરીકે વાપરવાથી જ સાધ્ય થઈ
શકે. ઉસ્માનિયા યુનિવર્સિટીના વિદ્યાથી એને આપણને જે અનુભવ મળ્યે
છે તે લાંબે ન હાવા છતાં તેમના ગણિત, ઇતિહાસ, અશાસ્ત્ર વગેરે
વિષયના પરીક્ષટ્કા અને બ્રિટિશ હિંદની યુનિવર્સિટીના પ્રેાફેસરેાની ખાત્રી કરી
આપી છે કે સરકારી યુનિવર્સિટીમાં શીખનારા વિદ્યાથી એને પારકી
ભાષામાં પુસ્તા વાંચવા પડે છે તે જે ભાષામાં પ્રશ્નાના ઉત્તર લખવાના
હાય છે તે ભાષાની વ્યાકરણવિષયક રચના પ્રત્યે ઉસ્માનિઆ યુનિવર્સિટીના
વિદ્યાર્થીઓને ધ્યાન આપવું પડતું ન હાવાથી તેએ તે વિષય પર જ
વિશેષ ધ્યાન આપી શકે છે અને તેમને જે કહેવાનું હેાય તે અધિક સ્પષ્ટ રીતે
વ્યક્ત કરી શકે છે. એટલું જ નહિ, પણ સરકારી યુનિવર્સિટીમાં તેમનાથી
ઉંચા વર્ગમાં ભણતા વિદ્યાર્થીએ કરતાં પણ તે વિષય પર તેમનું પ્રભુત્વ
અધિક હાય છે.”

હરદ્વાર પાસેના ગુરૂકુળનેા દેશી ભાષા વાટે ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણ આપવાના
મેટા પાયા પરને પહેલા પ્રયેાગ ગણી શકાય. આ પ્રયાગ યશસ્વી થયે
